GT World Cup - Earl Bamber earns practice bragging rights
Porsche lead the way in FIA GT World Cup action in Macau
New Zealander Earl Bamber topped the times during final free practice for the FIA GT World Cup in Macau as Porsche edged out Mercedes and Audi.
Porsche – one of the most successful marques in GT history – has surprisingly failed to register a victory in Macau for a decade, but the 911 GT3 R could potentially end that drought in 2018.
Bamber was on the edge during an eye-catching final run, setting the fastest pace of the weekend so far as his car stormed around the world famous Guia Circuit.
Using every last inch of the race track, Bamber’s 2:17.436s lap time blitzed Mercedes’ Maro Engel and Audi’s Robin Frijns’ respective efforts.
Laurens Vanthoor highlighted Porsche’s potential with fourth place, whilst Augusto Farfus ensured BMW remained in the mix with fifth.
Reigning FIA GT World Cup winner Edoardo Mortara was down in sixth but there is little doubting that the Swiss driver will be a contender during qualifying this afternoon.
Christopher Haase, Dries Vanthoor and Adderly Fong ensured all four Audis made it into the top ten, whilst Mathieu Jaminet was ninth in the Craft Bamboo Racing Porsche.
The five-star FIA GT World Cup line-up will be back on track for Qualifying at 1610 later today.
