WORLD RALLY STAR SORDO SET FOR ERC ACTION IN ZLÍN
Dani Sordo will make his FIA European Rally Championship debut on Barum Czech Rally Zlín next month, driving a Hyundai i20 R5 on the all-asphalt spectacular. Sordo, a one-time winner in the world championship, is renowned for his Tarmac-driving prowess and has been called on to demonstrate the capabilities of the Korean machine to potential customers when the event takes place from 24-26 August as the sixth round of the 2018 ERC season. WHY FLYING FINN NORDGREN’S ERC ROMA STRATEGY PAID OFF
Juuso Nordgren said his error-free performance and the experience he gained made up for his lack of outright speed on Rally di Rally di Capitale, which he finished in seventh place. It was the first time the Finn had gone the distance in this year’s FIA European Rally Championship, which he put down to his risk-free strategy at the wheel of his Wevers Sport-prepared ŠKODA Fabia R5. IT’S ALL TOO BEAUTIFUL FOR GRZYB IN THE ERC
Grzegorz Grzyb enjoyed a “beautiful moment” when he claimed his first podium of the ERC season on Rally di Capitale. The former Polish champion placed third on the FIA European Rally Championship counter, one week after winning the Slovak championship-counting Rally Lubeník. Click for full story.
STRONG ERC JUNIOR PACE GIVES FURUSETH REASON TO BELIEVE
Sindre Furuseth’s impressive pace on his FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship has helped to cancel out the Norwegian’s Rally di Roma Capitale heartbreak. The Norwegian, who was making his debut in the Pirelli-equipped division, was battling for the lead when a mechanical issue took hold nearing the end of leg one and led to his early retirement. ALONSO’S ERC COMMITMENT HUGE, FIGURES REVEAL
Juan Carlos Alonso has travelled around the world almost four times to pursue his FIA European Rally Championship ambitions. Figures on social media report the Argentine’s trips to and from the first five events of the ERC season total 217,222 kilometres or 3.77 turns of the Earth, which is more than a third of the way to the moon, according to the social media post. PLENTY LEARNED BUT PODIUM LOSS A BLOW FOR ERC JUNIOR YATES
Rhys Yates could have made it two FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship podiums in succession had it not been for a double puncture on Rally di Roma Capitale.
