DID YOU KNOW IT?
19 November 2006 – Nine drivers representing three different car manufacturers – Alfa Romeo, BMW and SEAT – were covered by 12 points and were still in contention to clinch the Drivers’ Championship in the last event. 2005 champion Andy Priaulx proved to be the coolest of them all and focused on the ultimate goal that he achieved by winning Race 1 and finishing second in Race 2.
18 November 2007 – On the penultimate lap of the first race, Yvan Muller’s hopes to become champion vanished as his SEAT León TDi retired from the lead due to a diesel pump failure. Andy Priaulx won the second race and claimed his third consecutive WTCC title.
20 November 2009 – Title contenders SEAT team-mates Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller were involved in a dramatic crash during Friday qualifying. They were both hospitalized and discharged, but they were only declared fit to race after further medical checks on Saturday. On Sunday, Tarquini claimed the title while his car was standing still on the pit straight. In fact, the second race had been suspended following a massive crash and was not resumed.
18 November 2012 – Rob Huff had the title within reach, but was so eager to settle the matter that he took a unnecessary risk in Race 1 and crashed from the lead, which allowed his Chevrolet team-mates Yvan Muller and Alain Menu to remain in contention. Thanks to the team’s effort in rebuilding his car, Huff took a second place in Race 2 that gave him the world crown.
