WELCOME TO MIAMI: SUNSHINE STATE AWAITS SEASON 11 TITLE-CHASERS

09.04.25

All-star cast ready to electrify America’s East Coast as Rowland’s rivals redouble their efforts to reel the championship leader in.

Round five of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship sees the all-electric single-seater series return to an iconic coastal city it has not visited since its inaugural campaign.

THE TRACK
Homestead-Miami Speedway will become the fifth US venue to host an E-Prix. The GEN3 Evo competitors will tackle a lightly modified version of the legendary Florida circuit’s technical and demanding road course configuration, thanks to joint efforts from the FIA Safety Department, the FIA Circuits Commission, the local ASN and Formula E staff to adapt it to the championship specificities.

SUSTAINABLE SILVERWARE AT STAKE
For the first time in Formula E history, the FIA President’s Medal will be awarded to the race winner. A vision of FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the medal is sustainably crafted from 100% recycled materials—symbolising the FIA’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility. Beyond honouring elite sporting achievement, the medal also celebrates the dedication, skill, and innovation that define the future of motor sport.

THE PROTAGONISTS
Oliver Rowland (Nissan Formula E Team) leads the standings heading to Miami, courtesy of two victories from four starts in Season 11 – coming within a whisker of making it three.

Young countryman Taylor Barnard is second, 17 points behind, and has been a revelation in his rookie campaign in the championship, tallying a trio of podium finishes for NEOM McLaren Formula E Team.

Twice a runner-up already this season, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team’s António Félix da Costa sits third – firmly in the mix to clinch a second Drivers’ crown.

Fourth-placed Maximilian Günther pipped Rowland to the top step of the rostrum in Saudi Arabia in just his third appearance for DS Penske. The German won in New York in 2021, with team-mate Jean-Éric Vergne sealing both of his Formula E titles in the USA.

BIG NAMES IN NEED OF A BIG RESULT
Tied for seventh in the points table, big-hitters Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing), defending champion Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) and Jake Dennis (Andretti Formula E) are all looking to take a leap forward.

Evans has not scored since winning the São Paulo curtain-raiser, while 2022/23 champion Dennis has yet to spray any champagne this season – although like DS Penske, Andretti will be extra-motivated to put on a strong show on home soil.

Nick Cassidy has endured a troubled start to the campaign with Jaguar but has conquered two of the four previous US circuits to welcome Formula E, toasting his breakthrough career victory in Brooklyn in 2022.

STATESIDE STARS
Alongside da Costa, McLaren’s Sam Bird is statistically Formula E’s most prolific winner in the States, having triumphed three times in New York. The Briton briefly led in Florida ten years ago.

Others to have won in America include Envision Racing duo Sébastien Buemi and Robin Frijns as well as Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team’s Lucas Di Grassi. Of the three, only Buemi has troubled the scorers so far in Season 11, with Frijns and 2016/17 title-holder Di Grassi still to get off the mark.

LIGHTS-OUT
The Miami E-Prix will begin at 14:05 local time (20:05 CEST) on Saturday, 12 April.
