WEC - 6 Hours of Shanghai - Post Qualifying Press Conference

Mike Conway

No7 Toyota Gazoo Racing – Toyota TS050 Hybrid

“It’s very close, the LMP1 Privateers have been with us all the way, in every circuit condition.  We weren’t quite sure what to expect in qualifying, so it was good that we had a little advantage and hopefully we’ll be able to continue that on tomorrow.  But with the mixed weather conditions it’s going to be quite a tricky race with different levels of rain.  We saw that all of Friday but hopefully we’ll just do our job, have a clean race and see where we are at the end.”

Ho Pin Tung

No38 Jackie Chan DC Racing – Oreca 07-Gibson

“It’s a fantastic result for the whole team, we been always at the front.  It wasn’t very smooth at the start of the weekend for the 38 car but we managed to make the right changes for qualifying and Gabriel managed to finish the job.  We are really happy to take our first pole of the season at our home event.”

Stefan Mucke

No66 Ford Chip Ganassi Team UK - Ford GT

“It was quite an interesting qualifying session for us. I went out as the first car of the session and found the grip not very good, the track was black but it was the wrong rubber on the track.

“We saw during the session that the track was getting quicker and quicker.  Olivier did an amazing lap in his run in the middle, so we decided to have one more go and it was pole position at the end.  I couldn’t believe it when I saw the lap time.  The team did a great job, we had a really nicely balanced car and the tyres were spot on in the window for the one qualy lap that we had.”

Pedro Lamy

No98 Aston Martin Racing - Aston Martin Vantage

“It is great to be on pole, we didn’t expect to be here because we thought we didn’t have the right pace. The track improved during the session and we saw a big difference between the beginning and the end of the session.

“I improved a lot on my second run because the tyres had more grip because the track had more rubber.  Paul did a great lap after me and we managed to be on pole.  As always Paul makes the difference and this is a great result for the team.”
