WEC – Toyota, Rebellion and Ginetta Fill Top Three After FP2 at Fuji
The no8 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050-Hybrid topped the second and final Free Practice session of the opening day at Fuji Speedway in Japan. Kazuki Nakajima posted the best time of the day, a 1m25.623, 1.419s ahead of the no1 Rebellion Racing R13-Gibson of Norman Nato, with the no5 Team LNT Ginetta a further half second behind with Egor Orudzhev’s 1m27.602 lap.
Porsche were fastest again in the LMGTE Pro category, this time the no92 911 RSR-19 was the fastest car, with Michael Christensen’s 1m38.214 one tenth quicker than the best time set by Gianmaria Bruni in FP1. The no51 AF Corse Ferrari of James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi was second fastest with Calado posting a 1m38.252 lap, just 0.038s behind Christensen’s Porsche. The no91 Porsche was third quickest with the no97 Aston Martin Racing Vantage in fourth.
The no38 JOTA Oreca-Gibson was the quickest of the eight LMP2 entries with former world champion Anthony Davidson posting a 1m29.633, just 0.009s slower than the best class time of the day set by local hero Kenta Yamashita in FP1. The Japanese set the second fastest time in the second 90-minute practice session with a 1m30.163 in the no33 High Class Racing Oreca, 0.042 seconds ahead of the no22 United Autosports Oreca.
Aston Martin topped the LMGTE Am class, with the no90 TF Sport heading the 11 car category once again. Charles Eastwood set a 1m38.719, 0.197 ahead of Matteo Cairoli in the no56 Team Project 1 Porsche and 0.230 ahead of the no98 Aston Martin Racing Vantage after Ross Gunn set a 1m38.949.
The third Free Practice session will begin at 09h20 (local time) / 02h20 (CET) on Saturday morning followed by qualifying at 13h10 / 06h10.
