Toyota Continue to Lead The Way in Shanghai
The third and final free practice session saw another Toyota 1-2 ahead of qualifying for the 6 Hours of Shanghai, Round 8 of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship. The 60-minute session was cut short after 40 minutes due to a concrete kerb breaking up. The circuit staff are working to make the necessary repairs to allow track action to continue later this morning.
For the third time this weekend it was the no7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid was holding the top spot on the timesheets with Kamui Kobayashi setting a best time of 1m44.888, just two tenths ahead of the no8 TS050. The no2 Porsche was third with a 1m45.529, 0.6s behind the lead Toyota and 0.7 seconds ahead of the no1 Porsche 919 in 4th.
The no95 Aston Martin Racing Vantage was the quickest car in the LMGTE Pro category with Marco Sorensen setting a 1m59.836, 0.6 seconds ahead of the no67 Ford GT and the no92 Porsche 911 RSR.
LMP2 was headed by the no26 G Drive Racing Oreca-Gibson of Nico Muller with a lap of 1m50.162, just 0.033s ahead of the no31 Vaillante Rebellion Oreca and 0.503s ahead of the championship leading no38 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca 07.
The no54 Spirit of Race Ferrari was the faster of the five LMGTE Am competitors with Miguel Molina posting a 2m01.924 lap before the red flag came out to end the session. The no61 Clearwater Racing Ferrari was second quickest, just 0.068s behind the lead F488.
Qualifying is due to start at 14h00 (local) / 07h00 CET today (Saturday 4 November)
