Brendon Hartley posted the fastest lap of the first day of the 6 Hours of Shanghai weekend posting a 1m44.594 lap in the second Free Practice session.  The reigning World Champion took nearly 1.2 seconds off his own best time from Free Practice One in the no1 Porsche and his lap was 1.617 seconds faster than the second placed no8 Audi R18 of Loic Duval and 1.670 ahead of teammate Marc Lieb in the no2 Porsche 919.

The no4 Bykolles CLM-AER of Pierre Kaffer was the quicker of the two LMP1 Privateers with a 1m51.911, 0.1s quicker than the best time from FP1 set by the no13 Rebellion Racing R-One.

The no26 G-Drive Racing Oreca was once again the quickest of the ten LMP2 contenders with Will Stevens shaving off 1.3 seconds from the best time set in Free Practice 1 with a lap time of 1m54.627.  The two Manor Orecas were second and third with the no44 Oreca of Alex Lynn setting a 1m54 .856, less than two tenths ahead of the no45 Manor run Oreca of Mathias Beche.

Ferrari posted a 1-2 in Free Practice Two, with the no51 F488 of Gianmaria Bruni once again posting the best time, in this session it was a 2m02.481, 1.3 seconds quicker than the previous best.  The no71 AF Corse Ferrari of Davide Rigon was second quickest, 0.26 seconds behind his teammate and 0.9 seconds ahead of the no66 Ford GT of Olivier Pla.

The LMGTE AM class it was a 1-2 for Porsche with the no88 Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing 911 of David Heinemeier Hansson posting a 2m05.428, 0.14 seconds ahead of Wolf Henzler in the no78 KCMG Porsche.  The no98 Aston Martin Racing Vantage was third fastest.

The third and final Free Practice session will take place at 09h00 (local) / 02h00 (CET) with qualifying for the penultimate round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship taking place at 13h30 (local) / 06h30 (CET).
