WEC – All Set for Final Qualifying of the Season in Bahrain
The third and final Free Practice session for the 8 Hours of Bahrain saw the no8 Toyota TS050-Hybrid finish at the head of the rest of the field, while Porsche were the quickest of the LMGTE runners, meaning all three manufacturers had headed a practice session in Bahrain.
Brendon Hartley set the fastest time in the n08 Toyota, the double world champion posting a 1m43.567 lap,0.102 ahead of the sister car driven by Mike Conway.
The LMGTE Pro class was headed by the no92 Porsche with outgoing champion Michael Christensen setting a 1m56.790 lap time, the steering issues the car suffered in FP1 clearly resolved. Christensen was nearly one second ahead of championship leader Nicki Thiim in the no95 Aston Martin Racing Vantage.
The no37 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca was the fastest of the six LMP2 competitors, Will Stevens posting a 1m48.598, two tenths ahead of newly crowned class champions United Autosports after Phil Hanson set a 1m48.810.
The no98 Aston Martin Racing Vantage, with Ross Gunn behind the wheel, set the fastest time in the LMGTE Am class and the third fastest GTE time overall. The Portuguese drivers’ time of 1m57.947 was 0.8 seconds ahead of the no83 AF Corse Ferrari of Nicklas Nielsen.
Qualifying for the 8 Hours of Bahrain will begin at 18h00 (local) / 16h00 (CET) with LMGTE, followed by LMP qualifying at 18h30.
