WEC: 2017 Calendar Approved by the World Motorsport Council
Today the FIA World Motor Sport Council has approved the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship calendar which will feature nine rounds in a carbon copy of the 2016 season
The highlight of the calendar will be the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will take place on the 17/18 June, and is once again Round 3 of the FIA WEC. As in previous seasons the race at Le Mans will carry double championship points.
The other eight races are all six hours in duration with the season starting at Silverstone (GBR) on Easter Sunday. As well as races at Le Mans and Silverstone, the European leg of the WEC will also feature races at Spa-Francorchamps (BEL) and Nürburgring (DEU) before the championship heads overseas for the final five races.
After a successful first event which saw a large crowd in attendance, the WEC returns to Mexico City in September for another race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. This will be followed by a return to the Circuit of The Americas in Texas (USA). The final three races will be held at Fuji Speedway (JPN), Shanghai International Circuit (CHN) and Bahrain International Circuit (BAH).
The Prologue, the official two day pre season test, will move to Monza in Italy to be held on the 24/25 March 2017.
