Statement: Incident during FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race, Sochi
The FIA advises that an incident occurred during the opening lap of the FIA Formula 2 Sprint race today, 29/09/19, in Sochi, involving car #2, Nobuharu Matsushita and car #3, Nikita Mazepin.
Both drivers were immediately attended to by emergency and medical crews. The driver of car #3 self-extricated, and the driver of car #2 was extricated by the attending medical crew. Both were conscious at all times and were taken to the medical centre before being transferred to Sochi Hospital – MBUZ by helicopter for precautionary checks.
Nikita Mazepin has been declared fit following these checks.
Scans for Nobuharu Matsushita revealed no injuries, however he will remain in the hospital overnight for another precautionary scan tomorrow.
