Rene Münnich: ‘We are looking for a win’

After a one-month break, the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Mercedes team is optimistic ahead of this weekend’s fifth round in Algarve.

“We want to tighten or even develop our leading position in the team rankings in these two races,” René Münnich, the founder, owner and team principal of the racing stable from Saxony.

“The goal is very clear, to get as many points as possible. And I would be especially happy if we could win a race finally.”

A victory in a season run has not been there yet for the two driver pairings of Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock in the No.38 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 or Nicky Pastorelli and Thomas Jäger in the No.37 car.

The team sits on top of the teams’ rankings – 13 points clear of Hexis Racing McLaren –  courtesy of two second places and two thirds from Basseng and Winkelhock who lie third in the drivers’ standings.

Pastorelli/Jäger, meanwhile, have recorded a second and third place and are 10 points behind their colleagues in sixth position overall.

“So far we could get a lot of points because of the great work of the whole team and really good pit stops. That is what we are aiming at in Portugal again,” Basseng said.

“Until now the top speed of our cars has not been enough to get on the top position of the podium by own power, because of the categorisation at the Balance of Performance (BOP). We will see if the changes made to BOP for the Algarve race will bring us advantages.”
