- Expanded programme adds at least 10 new disciplines for 2024 – bringing the total to a minimum of 26
The countdown has begun with only 12 months to go until the opening ceremony of the third running of the FIA Motorsport Games to be held in Valencia, Spain, in 2024.
After the highly successful second edition of the Games staged in Marseille last year, Valencia steps up to host the 2024 event, which aims to break new records for international motorsport.
The 2022 Games set a new record for the number of nations to ever contest a single motorsport event. Over four days of action spread across the Circuit Paul Ricard, Autocross Veynois, and the surrounding region, 463 athletes representing 72 nations (FIA National Sporting Authorities – ASNs) battled for glory in front of 45,000 enthusiastic spectators.
For 2024, the opening ceremony will feature a breathtaking location with Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) scheduled to host the event. Featuring stunning architecture, the facility was officially opened in 1998, with the most recent addition to the multi-building architectural marvel completed in 2009.
A huge contingent of more than 500 athletes representing an expected 75+ nations will attend the opening ceremony at the City of Arts and Sciences, which is renowned as one of the “12 Treasures of Spain”.
Jointly launched by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and SRO Motorsports Group in 2019, the inaugural FIA Motorsport Games was hosted by Rome, Italy. After the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the Marseille edition of the games back to 2022, the event is now scheduled to be staged every two years, with the Generalitat Valenciana putting its support behind the 2024 edition.
“The Valencia Government is proud to support the FIA Motorsport Games. Holding this event in the Valencian community region will play a role in attracting business innovation for the local sports sector,” said Vicente Barrera,” First Vice-President of the Generalitat Valenciana.
Multiple venues will be used for the broad array of disciplines set to be contested next year. At least 10 additional forms of motorsport competition will be added to the programme to grow the total to 26 at Valencia (from 16 in 2022 in Marseille).
In addition to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo and the City of Arts and Sciences, all venues for all disciplines, including karting, rallying, cross car, and more will be staged within a 50km radius of the city of Valencia.
“It seems like it was yesterday when hundreds of athletes and teams gathered in Marseille, for one of the most important events of the FIA, the Motorsport Games,” said Manuel Aviñó Roger, FIA Vice President and Spanish ASN President
“We will have around 30 different disciplines competing simultaneously in a 50km radius in Valencia, so there is a lot of work ahead. Fortunately, I have a great team among the Generalitat Valenciana, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, and the Royal Spanish Motorsports Federation. It will be a success.”
Entries for the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games are expected to open in at the end of February next year. Competitors interested in representing their country should contact their local FIA National Sporting Authority (ASN). Next year's FIA Motorsport Games will be held from October, 23-27 October 2024.
"With only a year to go now until the third edition of the FIA Motorsport Games, the FIA is fully focused on making this wonderful event another great success – and with at least 26 categories on the programme, everybody has an opportunity to excel and showcase their skills," said Robert Reid, FIA Deputy President for Sport.
"Following the publication of the entry criteria last month, we have been delighted to see the rigorous selection processes implemented by some ASNs, underlining their commitment to putting together the strongest possible national teams ready for battle.
"Here at the FIA, we are ready and willing to support them however we can, to ensure the 2024 Motorsport Games are the biggest and best to date.”
