One to watch: Michel Nykjaer
The Dane had already shown in the past the potential to be a race winner in WTCC. However, to see him scoring three race wins in the Nika Racing Chevrolet Cruze, chasing Gabriele Tarquini for second in the Drivers’ Championship and leading the Yokohama Trophy it is something that was hardly predictable. Even for him.
“Actually I never expected to be in this positions halfway through the season. I knew only one month before the first race at that I would drive in WTCC. Then I would be happy to be within the top-ten, maybe even the tope-five. And of course the main goal was the Yokohama Trophy. Now we are fighting for the top positions in the championship. It is a very nice feeling for me and the team. We have to keep on this way and try to collect more points and score more victories,” commented Nykjær who is currently third in the Drivers’ Championship, only six points behind Tarquini and has taken the lead in the Yokohama Trophy, one point ahead of James Nash.
