Mercedes pair stripped of race points but keep titles
02.10.12
The No.38 All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport Mercedes of Markus Winkelhock (DEU) and Marc Basseng (DEU) was excluded from the Championship Race results at the final round of the championship at Donington Park.
The stewards decided that Winkelhock was at fault for the accident with the No.18 Vita4One BMW of Yelmer Buurman (NLD).
It means that Winkelhock and Basseng remain drivers’ champions on 145 points and it hands Bartels and Buurman an extra point for ninth place and draws them level with the Hexis McLaren pair of Fred Makowiecki (FRA) and Stef Dusseldorp (NLD) on 144.
The Hexis pair are vice-champions based on three Championship wins to two for the BMW duo.
The teams’ standings have All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport on 245, Hexis Racing on 209, Belgian Audi Club Team WRT on 203 and Vita4One Racing on 200.
