First Aid, but not just on track

First Aid can be vital in saving a life and everyone should know how to intervene in an emergency.

In fact, in order to give this topic the most widespread coverage possible, alongside the campaigns supported by the Federation in terms of road safety, the FIA, along with the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) and the Red Cross, has set up a stand at the Hermanos Rodriguez Circuit, which tomorrow hosts the Mexico City ePrix, the fifth round of the FIA Formula E Championship.

This morning, the stand, located in the eVillage, featured a demonstration for the event-accredited media of the type of first aid intervention that can be carried out. There were some rather special protagonists on hand for this, namely the drivers Lucas di Grassi (Abt Schaeffler Audi Sport), Jerome D’Ambrosio (Dragon Racing) and Salvador Duran (Team Aguri). The three men were first instructed on what to do by Red Cross Volunteers, headed up by the President of Mexico’s Red Cross council, Carlos Canales, before having a go themselves simulating an emergency situation.

“Being able to apply first aid to the victims of a road accident is very important because it can happen that any one of us could be in a similar situation" - said Salvador Duran – “Today I have learnt that anyone trained in First Aid can provide assistance at the scene of a road crash. I really thank the FIA and the Mexican Red Cross for this opportunity and I encourage everyone, especially the younger generations, to acquire the basic essential skills to use in an emergency.”
