The 24th World Scout Jamboree welcomes almost 50 000 scouts aged from 14 to 18 years old representing more than 200 nations from around the world. This year the World Scout Jamboree theme is “Unlock a New World” and it is held from July 22 to August 2 in West Virginia, USA. During the event, scouts are encouraged to develop their physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual life.

The FIA partnered with its member Club Road Safety Institute Panos Mylonas to launch an educational campaign on road safety at the Jamboree’s Transportation Hub. As road crashes are the major cause of fatal and serious injuries for youth worldwide, young scouts will become road safety ambassadors in their communities once they come back to their home country. During these two weeks it is estimated that at least 5000 scouts will participate in training on road safety issues.

At the event, the FIA highlights the #3500LIVES global road safety campaign to raise awareness on key safe behaviours : "Watch out for pedestrians" ; "Buckle up" ; "Stay bright" ; "Always pay attention" ; "Wear a helmet" ;  "Don't text and drive" and "Slow down for kids". The stand is equipped with a photo booth where teenagers can print pictures with road safety messages and leave their commitments for road safety on a photo wall.

RSI will educate scouts on road user behaviour using a reaction test, a collision weigh scale, an egg helmet, a distraction game and alcohol googles. During the Jamboree, RSI will also conduct a survey on attitudes and behaviours of youth regarding traffic culture. The results will lead to the development of prevention programs based on a cross-cultural audience. RSI Panos Mylonas received funding through the FIA Grants Programme and participation to the Jamboree is part of the project “Promoting Traffic Safety Culture in Youth”.

Other international organization are also attending the event such as UNEP, UNICEF, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, WWF and the Red Cross, among others.

The World Scout Jamboree is organised by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and is held every 4 years rotating the host country. The next Jamboree will take place in South Korea in 2023.
