Jean Todt took time to tackle the topic of both road safety and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in a country which counts around 200 deaths and 4000 injuries per year and is at the forefront of connected cars’ technology development.

He met with representatives from the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (TRAFI - pictured). The responsibilities of TRAFI include vehicle registration, supervision of driving schools and licensing operation as well as the coordination with national road safety actors. Jean Todt underlined potential axes of collaboration with Autoliitto, the Finnish FIA member club for Mobility.

He also had talks with Matti Koistinen, from Pyoraliitto (the Finnish Cyclists’ Federation), a member of the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety through the European Cyclists’ Federation. Mr Koistinen presented the situation of vulnerable road users in Finland, while insisting on the great attention devoted by public authorities to building infrastructures encouraging a diverse modal share.

Jean Todt concluded his visiting by meeting with Anne Berner, the Minister of Transport and Communications. She gave an overview of the strategic priorities of her ministry in the field of Mobility. Mrs Berner notably elaborated on the concept of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) which is a key policy area in Finland and aims at optimizing individual mobility strategies while protecting all road users. The FIA President recalled that the 2016 FIA Mobility Conference, hosted in Helsinki, will feature discussions on this theme and invited the Minister to create synergies with FIA clubs of the region ahead of the event.
