Following the fourth meeting of its Disability and Accessibility Commission today in Paris, the FIA has launched a new symbol and a dedicated section on its website for disabled competitors.

The symbol will be used as a mandatory racing sticker for non-ambulant drivers, to help marshals and race officials identify the cars where the driver may need assistance to extricate themselves and get clear of the vehicle following an incident on track or stopping due to mechanical failure.

Any non-ambulant driver taking part in a race will need to display the sticker in a designated position on their car from this year.

The symbol is one of the downloads available at www.fia.com/disability-accessibility. This new dedicated site makes it easier for disabled competitors to find news and information on regulations and links to documents. It forms part of the Commission’s commitment to improve the accessibility of the sport for disabled competitors, officials, volunteers, and spectators.

“The launch of the new symbol and website indicates the significant progress being made on behalf of disabled competitors,” said FIA Disability and Accessibility Commission President Nathalie McGloin. “The use of the sticker on competition cars is new for the regulations from 2019 and the FIA will work now to ensure that this symbol is recognised worldwide. The new section on the FIA website will play a key role in creating this awareness, as well as communicating the broader work of the Commission in ensuring accessible racing and motoring across both the Sport and Mobility pillars.’
