FIA Historic Awards honours 2024 champions in Paris

The champions of FIA Historic motor sport were honoured tonight, 6 February, in an exceptional awards ceremony at the Automobile Club de France in Paris.

In the presence of FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, ACF President Yann de Pontbriand, Pierre Gosselin, President of the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA) and Historic Motor Sport Committee President Roger Wills, winners from the FIA European Historic Hill Climb and Rally Championships took to the stage to receive their trophies from the FIA President.

Welcoming the champions and honoured guests, President Ben Sulayem said: “We still remember drivers from the past, but we shouldn’t forget the cars that brought them to success. It’s our responsibly to protect these cars, and to use them. We will do whatever we can to have the advocacy to represent the interests of the automotive enthusiasts and tell our story. We have had Appendix K now for fifty years, and we will work more for a bright future for these beautiful cars. This is a big part of our history, and they will be a part of our future.”

Yann de Pontbriand said, “We have a lot of history in this building, we are very proud that with the FIA in the next building to us, which has been the historical home of the FIA. We are very proud of these historic cars, because it’s always in your roots that you find you future.”

Roger Wills added, “Historic motor sport is doing very well, and as we celebrate rally and hill climb tonight, I really hope that we’ll also be developing historic circuit racing in the coming years. All of the cars racing today will one day be historic cars, we are a moving museum, and we should be seeing these cars out on the circuit, and that’s what we are here to do.”

The FIA European Historic Hill Climb Championship, which celebrates what is one of the oldest disciplines in motor sport, saw champions from across five categories, plus the coveted Nations Cup, awarded this evening. For the second year in a row, the Nations Cup was won by Austria. with Dr Harald Hertz, Vice-President of the Austrian Motor Sport Federation, received the award on behalf of the Club.

The FIA European Historic Rally Championship, supported by Official Partner FlexiFly, has had another hugely successful year, and the historic motor sport community celebrated achievements from across the four categories of the EHRC, with final honours of the evening going to the overall winners Tibor Erdi Jr and Istvan Kerek.
