FIA F3 World Cup: Mick Schumacher chasing Macau GP family hat-trick
VIDEO: SJM Theodore Racing by Prema star gunning for glory
German star Mick Schumacher will arrive at the Macau GP next month as one of the hotly tipped favourites for the FIA F3 World Cup, with a potential victory capping a remarkable season for the 19-year-old.
Not only would a win in Macau create a new chapter for one of the youngest and most talented prospects in world motor sport, but it will also complete a sensational family hat-trick at Formula 3’s Blue Riband event.
“Just hearing you say that sounds really good, I will do my best!” he said, when reminded of the potential Schumacher treble.
Mick’s father Michael succeeded on the streets of Macau back in 1990, before the motor racing legend went on to dominate Formula 1 for many years, whilst uncle Ralf also triumphed in the famous race in 1995.
The SJM Theodore Racing by Prema driver made his Macau GP debut last year – setting the fastest lap along the way – but 2018 represents a huge opportunity for outright success, having recently claimed the FIA Formula 3 European Championship title.
“Getting closer to the walls and sometimes exceeding the limits,” formed part of Mick’s reflections of a maiden Macau weekend in 2017, but now he’s ready to take on the unique challenge once again. “I’m really looking forward to it, it’s just such an incredible track to drive on,” he enthused.
Schumacher will be one of a capacity 28-field for the 2018 FIA F3 World Cup, which takes place as part of the Macau GP weekend on 15-18 November.
