FIA ETRC ANNOUNCES STRONG SEASON LINE-UP AND EVENT UPDATES
The FIA European Truck Racing Championship today announced a provisional list of full-season entries for 2020, featuring a 17-driver strong grid, which is the second largest grid in the last five years and an encouraging message for the promoter of the championship and a strong signal to all the fans.
The FIA ETRC targets six race weekends in 2020, giving back to the teams, fans and partners, celebrating all the road heroes out there and acknowledging the hard work they put in.
The European Truck Racing Association (ETRA) the promoter of the championship, has worked tirelessly with the FIA and local race organisers on revised event dates for the 2020 season following the Europe-wide restrictions due the impact of Covid-19.
The Hungarian government has announced a ban on events with more than 500 people until 15 August 2020, which means it would have no longer been possible for the FIA ETRC round at the Hungaroring to be held on 13/14 June 2020. The new date for the race in Hungary has been set as 17/18 October 2020, subject to FIA confirmation. Despite all efforts it was unfortunately not possible to find a new suitable date for the Slovakia Ring later this year.
“With the strong full-season grid we received a clear mandate from our teams and over the last couple of months, we have worked hard to be able to keep as many races as possible on our calendar,” said ETRA managing director Rolf Werner. “Unlike other racing series, which had to cancel many races, we found alternative dates for six of our eight scheduled events.
“We can honestly say we have been excited that so many teams have committed to our championship this season and that we all work through these adverse times together.
“Many of our drivers and fans run haulage companies and/or work as lorry drivers themselves. It’s an incredibly challenging time for them at the moment amid the pandemic across the world and to have their support for the series is encouraging. We will do everything we possibly can to go racing and to put on a great show for our drivers and fans.”
Georg Fuchs, ETRA managing director said: “Firstly I would like thank the teams and drivers for their commitment in these difficult times. Once again the grid looks exceptionally competitive and promises to see some exciting racing. The teams have worked hard over the winter months and we’ve already seen a few of the new trucks.
“We can’t wait to go back racing when it is safe to do so and for another thrilling season of great FIA ETRC competition.”
