FIA-Certified Gran Turismo Online Championships now live
Virtual racing “a unique opportunity to reach and inspire millions of potential new fans” - FIA President Jean Todt
After months of testing and fine-tuning, the 2018 FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championships are underway and live for racers worldwide, proposing a Nations Cup and the Manufacturer Series.
The online season will run from June-September, concluding with the Regional and World finals in October and November, where the Nations Cup and Manufacturer Series trophies await Gran Turismo’s top-ranking players.
FIA President Jean Todt said: “Certifying virtual races is something that is completely new for the FIA, and it has been very important to ensure that the system for these competitions is fair and reliable. The use of simulators is a key part of any professional driver’s training, and the increased accessibility to high-level simulation technologies is positive for our sport. We have a unique opportunity to reach and inspire millions of potential new fans, as well as discover bright new talents, and I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of the first Regional and World Finals at the end of this year.”
The final match-ups between the best drivers will be hosted in locations around the world and streamed online. The format was recently showcased at the first Live Event exhibition at the Nürburgring – highlights of which can be seen below:
