FE - 2015 Punta del Este - Test Day
PUNTA DEL ESTE, URUGUAY (December 20) – Sebastien Buemi carried on his strong form in Punta del Este, topping the times in the only mid-season test by over half a second.
The Julius Baer Punta del ePrix winner was significantly quicker than he had been during yesterday’s event, setting a new unofficial lap record of 1:13.218s. This was almost two seconds faster than the quickest time from Saturday, which Buemi set in the fourth qualifying group.
After a disappointing qualifying session yesterday, it was an encouraging test for Jean-Eric Vergne, who set the second best time for DS Virgin with a lap of 1:13.753s. Nicolas Prost admitted that he struggled to get the best from his Renault e.dams car yesterday, so setting the third fastest time of 1:13.888s represented a good step forward.
Last year Stephane Sarrazin set the pace at the Punta test, and the Venturi driver went well again, setting the fourth fastest time despite an early morning off. Antonio Felix da Costa carried over his strong form from the race to set the fifth fastest time for Team Aguri.
It was an encouraging test for NEXTEV TCR, which had both its drivers in the top-10. Reigning champion Nelson Piquet Jr was sixth quickest and Oliver Turvey was seventh, showing that the gains the team felt had been made ahead of the race maybe bearing fruit.
Loic Duval was eighth fastest for Dragon Racing, Sam Bird ninth for DS Virgin and Oliver Rowland 10th for Mahindra Racing after enduring a tough series debut the previous day. Formula E resumes on February 6, 2016 for the Buenos Aires ePrix. For more information on Formula E visit www.fiaformulae.com.
