F4 – Three different winners at the Nurburgring in ADAC Championship
Zendeli, Drugovich and Armstrong share the laurels, but Vips retains championship lead
In a lights-to-flag victory, pole-sitter Lirim Zendeli (17, Germany, ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg eV) won the 13th ADAC Formula 4 race of the season at the Nürburgring, picking up a second winner's trophy of the season in the process. Zendeli beat off competition from the two US Racing drivers Kim-Luis Schramm (20, Germany) and Fabio Scherer (18, Switzerland). Juri Vips (16, Estonia, Prema Powerteam) also racked up vital points in the title chase. The championship leader was fifth while his main rivals, Marcus Armstrong (17, New Zealand, Prema Powerteam) and Felipe Drugovich (17, Brazil, Van Amersfoort Racing), finished way back in P10 and P17 respectively.
Drugovich went on to secure victory in the 14th race of the 2017 ADAC Formula 4 at the Nürburgring – his fourth win of the season. The pole-sitter crossed the line ahead of race one winner, Zendeli, and current championship leader Vips. P3 was enough for Vips to successfully defend his position at the top of the table against Drugovich. The race was stopped after seven laps when Cédric Piro (19, Germany, Team Piro Interdental) crashed.
Marcus Armstrong (17, New Zealand, Prema Powerteam) went on to win the final ADAC Formula 4 race at the Nürburgring, laying down a marker of his title ambitions with a third victory of the season. The New Zealander registered a comfortable lights-to-flag win ahead of Julian Hanses (19, Germany, US Racing) and Enzo Fittipaldi (16, Brazil, Prema Powerteam), the grandson of two-time Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Although the current championship leader Juri Vips (16, Estonia, Prema Powerteam) missed out on the podium this time, he wasn't far off in fourth place.
