Just six races remain to decide who will claim this year’s F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford title and the battle for supremacy continues to intensify.

Max Fewtrell arrives at Silverstone this weekend (16-18 September) on the back of his second victory of the season and having finished on the podium in all three races a fortnight ago extended his championship lead.

He is by no means clear out front. It’s possible to make a realistic case for five other drivers. Namely JHR’s Sennan Fielding who recently recorded his fifth win of 2016 and will want to follow-up here. 

Not for the first time this season Luis Leeds was hampered by a qualifying that didn’t go his way at Rockingham. He will be aiming for a straightforward qualifying to maximise his points haul.

Behind Leeds in the standings can be found the rest of the Carlin quartet. James Pull is riding high having claimed his maiden victory in the series, whilst Devlin DeFrancesco and Petru Florescu had an exercise in damage limitation.

Silverstone has all the makings of a historic weekend for Carlin. The reigning British F4 teams’ champions have the chance to retain their title at the home of the British Grand Prix if results go their way following another stellar season for Trevor Carlin’s outfit.

The Rookie class title is almost certain to be decided this weekend, such is the domination of Racing Steps Foundation backed Alex Quinn, the class victor 15 times already this season.

The Rookie runner-up spot looks set to be between Quinn’s Fortec team-mate Nicolai Kjaergaard, as well as Arden’s Jack Martin and Ayrton Simmons.

Their team-mate Rafael Martins has finished in the points for the last five races. Expect more of the same and possibly his second win of the year.

It was heartbreak for JHR’s Billy Monger who lost the lead of the race on the final lap last time out, but he proved he can hold his own at front. His team-mate Jack Butel is strong around this circuit so will be on course for one of his best results.

Double R’s Zane Goddard had a relatively quiet time at Rockingham. The double British F4 race winner is looking to return to form. Team-mate Carrie Schreiner was in the points and is more than capable of repeating this feat, whilst JTR’s Patrik Matthiesen was unlucky to miss out on the top ten.

Jamie Caroline had an exhilarating wet race two weeks ago when he climbed an astonishing 14 places. Meanwhile Frank Bird continues to improve, with Andy Richardson lining up on the grid for Richardson Racing having previously competed in Formula Ford.

The F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford action gets underway with two test sessions tomorrow, followed by qualifying and Round 25 of the championship at 1030 and 1510 respectively on Saturday. The weekend reaches its climax on Sunday with another race at 0940 and the Silverstone finale at 1515 televised live on ITV4.
