INTERESTING FACTS
The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari is located near the Italian town of Imola, about 50 kilometres southeast of Bologna. The circuit is named after the Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari and his son Dino.
In 1980 the circuit hosted the 50th Italian Grand Prix, which was won by Nelson Piquet, father of FIA Formula 3 European Championship driver Pedro Piquet. It was so popular, that the track was established as venue for the Formula One San Marino Grand Prix, which meant two Grands Prix could be held in Italy in the 80s and 90s. Safety concerns following several serious accidents over the years and the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna in the 1994 San Marino GP, lead to modification to the circuit in an attempt to make it safer.
Imola, as the circuit is commonly known, is only one of two tracks on the FIA Formula 3 European Championship calendar run in anti-clockwise direction (the other being Norisring).
Not only the challenging circuit will guarantee for entertaining races, there is also much anticipation for the fight for the team and drivers’ championships, which could both already be decided at the penultimate round in Italy.
