INTERESTING FACTS
Pau, a town on the northern edge of the French Pyrenees, will host the third round of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The races are run around a street circuit in the French town and the venue is in many ways similar to the famous Monaco Grand Prix. The narrow and winding circuit does not forgive any driving mistakes and as overtaking is difficult, the qualifying results are very important. It is the only venue on the European calendar where F3 represents the main event and at the same time it is one of the most prestigious meetings on the FIA Formula 3 European Championship calendar with a long history. In 2017, the Grand Prix de Pau celebrates its 76th anniversary. The first race at the spectacular street circuit in Pau was held back in 1933 and former winners include Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark and Jochen Rindt.
Due to the nature of a street circuit, there are many areas from which fans and residents can get a close look onto the racing action on track. And Pau even offers entertainment after the chequered flag has been waved as the street festival around the market place is nearly as busy in the evenings as the grandstands are during the day.
