INTERESTING FACTS
The Guia Circuit is located in Macau, an autonomous territory on the southern coast of the People’s Republic of China. The Macau Peninsula lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta across from Hong Kong. It shares a border with Guangdong to the north and the South China Sea to the east and south.
The Macau event takes place annually, normally in mid or late November. It is known as the only street circuit event in which both car and motorcycle races are held. One of the highlights of the weekend is the FIA Formula 3 Intercontinental Cup which attracts the best drivers from the European and Japanese F3 series. Famous winners of the Macau Grand Prix include Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard, Ralf Schumacher and Takuma Sato. To join the ranks of the victorious the young drivers have to first prove themselves on the very challenging circuit. The fast straights and tight corners make it one of the most demanding tracks in the world.
So far Italian driver Edoardo Mortara is the only one to have clinched the victory twice. Felix Rosenqvist, 2015 FIA F3 European Champion and 2014 winner of the Macau Grand Prix, is hoping to equal this record, but will have competition from Daniel Juncadella, who won the 2011 Macau Grand Prix and likewise wants to take a second FIA F3 Intercontinental Cup victory.
