Following a mixed weekend at Most, Shane Brereton was looking for a return to consistency at Zolder in order to strengthen himself atop the GRAMMER TRUCK CUP standings.

However, it turned out that round six of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship brought mixed fortunes not only for Brereton and his TOR Truck Racing outfit but most of the category protagonists.

Four action-packed races featured as many winners, with Shane Breton, Jamie Anderson, Oly Janes and Steffen Faas all taking a victory apiece.

For the second meeting in a row, it was Oly Janes (Buggyra International Racing System/Freightliner) who accumulated the biggest points haul of anyone (51 points) over the course of four races, owing to a victory, two second places and a fourth. In terms of total points, it was also Janes’ best weekend of his FIA ETRC career to date.

Jamie Anderson, in his Anderson Racing run MAN, was another driver who impressed at Zolder, with a victory, a second, a third and a fifth place. 

His hard-fought Race 2 victory was a highlight of the weekend. Applying immense pressure to his compatriot Brereton in the closing stages of the race, he took the victory by just 0.009s in an amazing photo finish!

“I had a good lunge on Shane at the last corner,” said Anderson. “He knew I was there so he sort of out-braked himself a little bit and tried to stall me but in the meantime, he ran a bit wide.

“He struggled with traction and I went straight up the inside and snatched a gear quicker. I thought ‘this is going to be close. Before that, I was taking almost a second out of him and I pulled a lot back.

“I was almost pushing and willing myself to get to the chequered flag and we did it.” Anderson concluded.

Overall leader Brereton experienced two days of mixed fortunes in Belgium. 

He took an opportunistic Race 1 win after Faas’ retirement, before the amazing Race 2 scrap with Anderson. The West Countryman finally round out the weekend with a fifth and an eighth (classified but retired from the lead on the last lap) scored on Sunday.

Crucially, the total of 40 points he amassed over the weekend was 10 more than his closest rival Steffen Faas.

The Team Tankpool24 Racing Mercedes-Benz racer was another driver who experienced a weekend of contrasting fortunes. 

In Race 1 it seemed that he would emerge victorious, however, his Mercedes-Benz hit problems just a handful of laps remaining and the issue led to retirement.

Luis Recuenco (Truck Sport Lutz Bernau/MAN) has kept raising his game as the season has gone on. At Zolder, the Spaniard collected 31 points over the weekend, his best points haul of the season

Teenager Jose Eduardo Rodrigues (Reboconort/MAN) scored his first career GRAMMER TRUCK CUP podium, scoring 27 points in total after an assured performance with his third place on Saturday.

Ray Coleman (LRS/MAN) and Erwin Kleinnagelvoort (EK Trucksport/Scania) accumulated 21 and 16 points respectively.

With two rounds remaining Brereton leads Faas by 32 points. With 120 points on the table, it’s very much game on at Le Mans and Jarama.
