ETRC - 2018 Race of Zolder - Race 3 and 4

Jochen Hahn extended his title lead with a clinical victory in the third race at Circuit Zolder in Belgium today.

The German now has one hand on the 2018 FIA European Truck Racing Championship title with a 66 point advantage as he looks to take a remarkable fifth crown.

Jose Rodrigues took only his second ever FIA ETRC win in the final encounter as he brilliantly resisted massive pressure from Steffi Halm’s Team Schwabentruck IVECO.

Race 3

Hahn maintained his record of scoring a victory in every 2018 FIA European Truck Racing Championship weekend so far by claiming a conclusive win in race three at Zolder.

Hahn saw off the opposition from the very start as he blasted away from pole position defending from the chasing Antonio Albacete.

For Hahn, who took his eighth win of 2018, it was another dominant performance which sees him increase his points lead to a healthy 62 points with nine races remaining.

Albacete lost out to Sascha Lenz at turn two and was forced to relinquish second but the wily Spaniard was soon back at the young German and made a move on lap three at the final chicane to take it back.

Lenz soon fell back into the clutches of Adam Lacko’s Buggyra International Freightliner and the Czech was able to make a move exiting the first chicane on lap six.

This gave Lacko the final rung of the podium and at least minimised some of the damage to his wavering claims at retaining the title this season.

Race 4

Jose Rodrigues took his first win of the 2018 FIA European Truck Racing Championship season by taking the final race at Circuit Zolder today.

The Portuguese driver claimed his second career win, after Red Bull Ring in 2017, to make it a joyous day for his tight-knit Reboconort MAN team.

Rodrigues started from the semi-reversed grid pole and led all the way despite massive pressure from Steffi Halm and Jochen Hahn for the majority of the race.

Rene Reinert, who started alongside Rodrigues from the front-row initially pressured Rodrigues but was unable to find a way through.

Lap four saw Reinert run wide and lose second place to former teammate Steffi Halm in her Team Schwabentruck IVECO.

Reinert’s race didn’t last much longer however as he pulled off the track at the start of lap six with a suspected mechanical problem.

This left Halm to take second as she too was unable to break Rodrigues who defended admirably from the German pincer movements behind him.

Halm tried everything she could to try and take a second Zolder win of the weekend but failed by just 0.397s on the finishing line.
