Seven Regional Rally Trophies – One Grand Final

There are seven regional zones that score points for the FIA European Rally Trophy, which brings together the top regional rally drivers and co drivers from all over Europe for the season finale in Portugal on 15-17 November.

The Alpine Rally Trophy is held over four events in Italy, France and Switzerland. The last event, the Rallye International du Valais in Switzerland, was held at the weekend (18-20 October). The final was won by Italy’s Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai but the overall champions were Jean-Pascal Besson and Patrice Roissac from France, who finished the season on 39 points, just one point ahead of their rivals.

The Balkan Rally Trophy holds events in Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Serbia. The overall winners were Romanian duo Dan Girtofan and Tudor Marza who finished the season on 92 points to win the Balkan Rally Trophy.

The Baltic Rally Trophy holds three events in Finland, Lithuania and Latvia, with the final event, the Rally Liepaja, being held on the 12-14 October, which was also the final round of the European Rally Championship.  At the end of the three event season there was a tie for the overall win between Latvia’s Nikolay Gryazin and Finland’s Eerik Pietarinen, who both scored 1 win apiece to finish on 39 points alongside their co-drivers Yaroslav Federov and Juhana Raitanen.

The Benelux Rally Trophy holds five events in three countries – Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, with the final event being held at the end of September.  Hermen Kobus from The Netherlands secured the Benelux Rally Trophy title alongside his compatriot Eric de Wild after two victories on home soil and gathering 96 points over the five events.

The Celtic Rally Trophy was held in the Republic of Ireland, England and Northern Ireland.  Ireland’s Josh Moffet and Andy Hayes were the overall winners, finishing 2018 on 105 points, 28 ahead of their nearest rivals.

The Central Rally Trophy holds six events in the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Poland and Germany, with the season finale, the 21. Int. ADMV Lausitz Rallye, still to be run on the 1-3 November in Germany.

Finally, the Iberian Rally Trophy is contested over four events in Spain and Portugal, with the final event of the 2018 season, the 55 Rallye Princesa de Asturias Ciudad de Oviedo, being held in September in Spain. Spain’s Ivan Ares and co-driver Jose A Pintor took the overall title, finishing the season on 53 points.

European Rally Trophy Final: Rallye Casinos do Algarve - 15-17 November

The Rallye Casinos do Algarve gets underway on Wednesday 14 November with reconnaissance over two days, while scrutineering and admin checks will take place on Thursday 15 November.  The start of the first leg of the rally takes place on Friday 16 November and concludes on Saturday 17 November.
