Buemi tops timesheets in final practice

Formula E title contender Sebastien Buemi beat Dragon Racing’s Loic Duval and Briton Oliver Turvey to the fastest time in the second practice session for Sunday’s Visa London ePrix.

Buemi moved to the head of the timesheets with a qualifying simulation lap set with less than 10 minutes of the session remaining to depose NEXTEV TCR driver Turvey from the top spot.

Duval, who had set the pace in the day’s first practice session, pushed Turvey further back to third but the French driver could not surpass Buemi’s time.

Several drivers had issues during the 30-minute session that was ended prematurely by a red flag caused by Sakon Yamamoto crashing his Amlin Aguri car into the Turn 3 barrier with just three minutes left on the clock.

Lucas di Grassi ended the session in fourth with Karun Chandhok having to stop at Turn 9 but the Indian driver was able to get out again his second car.

Simona de Silvestro was another driver to hit trouble when she suffered left-rear suspension damage to her Andretti car and was forced to crawl back to the pits before completing the session in her second car ending up eighth quickest.

Jarno Trulli, who finished the session in 11th place, locked up at Turn 3 and had to reverse away, as did Nicolas Prost – who had to be pushed away from a similar incident later on at Turn 4.

Stephane Sarrazin was sixth quickest, just ahead of championship leader Nelson Piquet Jr, who had to be turned around by the marshals at Turn 8 with seven minutes left of the session after he dropped the rear of the car under braking and did well to avoid hitting the barriers.

Virgin Racing’s Fabio Leimer ended the session in seventh place with Daniel Abt completing the top-10 in his Audi Sport ABT machine.

Andretti’s Jean-Eric Vergne made his first on-track appearance of the day after he missed first practice with a medical problem and finished in 16th place.
