AAT LAUNCHES SECOND PHASE OF CHILD ROAD SAFETY PROJECT
The Automobile Association of Tanzania (AAT) is launching the second phase of the "SAFER SCHOOL - road signs education for school children" project.
Following the success of the “SAFER SCHOOL - road signs education for school children” project during which 1,000 teachers were given road sign education training in 50 different schools, AAT is now launching the second phase of the initiative funded under the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme.
Supported and encouraged by the National Road Safety Council of Tanzania, Tanzania Traffic Police HQ and the City Council, the Club has decided to scale up their project to 50 additional schools in seven different districts, reaching a total 26,000 children.
During this second phase, 10 zebra crossings will be created and traffic signs will be placed in critical locations around selected schools. AAT will also provide equipment including special safety signboards, educational flyers with road safety signs in Kiswahili language, reflective jackets, as well as stop & go signs.
The project will also take place online, with the dissemination of short movies especially designed for children, in English and Kiswahili.
The project launch was covered by local newspapers and television channels.
