The 2014 FIA European Formula 3 Vice Champion is the son of 1984 World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist.  The 22 year-old will race in the No.30 ESM Ligier-Nissan JS P2 alongside Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael.

“I am happy to be in the WEC and looking forward to making my LMP2 debut this weekend,” said Blomqvist. “Today I have been getting comfortable in the cockpit, getting my seat ready and meeting the team. Tomorrow will be my first track experience and it will just be about getting laps in and getting as much seat time as possible. I’ve watched a fair few races and from what I have seen the racing will be very enjoyable.

Blomqvist, who raced in the Asian Le Mans round at Zhuhai last weekend, will continue his experience with the Jagonya Ayam backed organisation with which he drove to six race wins in the FIA European Formula Three Championship in 2014, finishing the year in second overall between current F1 drivers Esteban Ocon and Max Verstappen.

“I know it will be a big challenge in my first race but I like challenges,” continued Blomqvist. “The WEC is clearly a very high level championship and the quality of the competitors is very strong. Yes I would like to do more in the future but first I just need to make an impression in LMP2 and then see where things lead.”
