Volkswagen Motorsport’s Jari-Matti Latvala has powered into a commanding lead in Rally Mexico, the third round of the FIA World Rally Championship. The Finn has won six of the day’s nine stages to extend his advantage to one minute 35.7 seconds. Reigning World Champion Sébastien Ogier has made the best of his difficult position at the head of the field, pushing hard to minimise time loss, but the Frenchman is now looking to secure his second position and take maximum points in Sunday’s Power Stage. Dani Sordo remains the lead Hyundai, the Spaniard third overnight.

Jari-Matti Latvala has once again capitalised on his advantageous Rally Mexico road position and stretched his lead to one-minute 16.3 seconds over team-mate Sébastien Ogier by Saturday’s mid-point service. Despite some overheating problems, Dani Sordo has maintained third, the Spaniard and fourth-placed Andreas Mikkelsen now in the thick of a battle for the final podium position.

After non-point scoring finishes in the first two rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship, Jari-Matti Latvala is finally back at the top of his game and leads Rally Mexico after the first full day of competition. The Finn heads Volkswagen team-mate Sébastien Ogier by 32.1 seconds with Hyundai’s Dani Sordo flying the flag for the Korean manufacturer in third.
