The season-closing 8 Hours of Bahrain, round 8 of FIA WEC, got underway this evening with the first free practice session. The 90-minute session was held under the floodlights, with track temperatures hovering around 30 degrees.

The teams and drivers have gathered for the final race of the 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship, the 8 Hours of Bahrain. As the teams unpacked their gear and prepare their cars for the first track session on Thursday 12 November, some members of the paddock gave their thoughts as they get ready for the final showdown in the desert.

Richard Westbrook will partner Maxime Martin in the No. 97 Aston Martin Racing GTE Pro entry at this weekend’s 8 Hours of Bahrain, eight and final round of the 2019-20 FIA World Endurance Championship.

As the FIA World Endurance Championship prepares for its final race of Season 8 in Bahrain, it also marks the countdown to the final time that LMP1 will form the championship’s top-tier category before the introduction of the Hypercars in 2021.

The FIA World Endurance Championship returns to the Middle East for the second time during the 2019/20 season. The race in Bahrain was a feature of the championship from 2012 to 2017, was missing from the 2018/19 Super Season and returned as Round 4 during the 2019/20 championship as an eight-hour race instead of the six hours held at the previous events.

Revised power output for the LMP2 category has been agreed on, starting in 2021.

On Saturday 14 November the 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship season will come to an end in the Middle East. With the destination of the LMP1 and LMGTE manufacturer and the Team and Driver titles in LMP2, the 8 Hours of Bahrain will be the deciding round for who will win the remaining ones, including the World Endurance Drivers' Championship titles in both LMP1 and LMGTE.
