Held on 12 November, the FIA Smart Cities eForum – Americas gathered urban mobility experts from all sectors to look at how urban mobility can be recalibrated so that it is fit for post-pandemic purpose in the Americas region.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the mobility patterns for over a billion people around the globe. Governments the world over have focused on managing continuity and implementing programmes to ensure recovery. However, despite the modelling and predictions of what the future may hold, uncertainty abounds. We know the crisis will end, but what will remain of the changes that have been enacted? Will recent initiatives aimed at making urban mobility safer, more sustainable and more accessible remain in place over the long term? Or will they become impractical and inefficient should large sections of the population return to previous mobility habits?

A recent study by the Automobile Association of South Africa (AASA) has revealed that the unregulated importing of cars in many African countries has a negative impact on the continent’s environment, health, society, and economy.

Held on 23 September, the FIA Smart Cities eForum - Asia-Pacific gathered thought leaders from international organisations to discuss how cities are adapting to the new mobility normal created by COVID-19.

The Automobile Club of Ecuador (ANETA) has achieved two-star FIA Environmental Accreditation. This accreditation is granted by the FIA to Clubs demonstrating outstanding care and respect for the environment in their daily operations.

Held online on 22 July, the ‘FIA Smart Cities eForum — Europe’ gathered thought leaders from international organisations to discuss how transport is being reshaped in times of a global pandemic.

In an ever more virtual world, the FIA Smart Cities Forum will be held online for the first time. For Season 4, a series of three eForums dedicated to Europe (22 July), Asia (23 September), and the Americas (12 November), will gather key players in smart and sustainable urban mobility from all regions of the world to discuss how transport is being reshaped in times of a global pandemic.

The Asian Edition of the FIA Smart Cities Global Start-Up Contest Season 4 awarded Aurassure, an IoT-enabled intelligent system that collects and analyses environmental factors through real-time data.

To share the latest ideas and developments in smart urban transport transformations and to promote sustainable and inclusive mobility through innovation and new technologies, FIA Smart Cities has launched the ‘FIA Smart Cities Voices’, a video and podcast interview series that gives the floor to global mobility experts.

On the occasion of 50 years of Earth Day, the FIA Environment and Sustainability Commission meets for the 6th time. Chaired by President Felipe Calderón, this meeting mainly focused on the development of the FIA Environmental Strategy aiming at strengthen the FIA’s environmental sustainability credentials across its two pillars of Sport and Mobility.
