The FIA is proud to announce the submissions for the 2024 FIA President’s Climate Action Awards.
The Award recognises Clubs who have made extraordinary strides within the field of climate action and sustainability. This year, the FIA received 6 submissions – covering everything from electric car apps to sustainable practices at motor sport events..
The entrants are:
- Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V. (ADAC)
- Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN)
- Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP)
- Automóvil Club Boliviano
- Federação Portuguesa de Automobolismo e Karting (FPAK)
- National Automobile Club of Azerbaijan (AMAK)
- Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF)
Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V. (ADAC) – Carbon neutral fossil-free fuel for DTM
Germany's top automobile racing series, DTM, will switch to carbon neutral fossil-free fuel from the 2025 season. The fossil free fuel — produced by P1 Fuels and certified by the FIA — will help the series to reduce its carbon emissions by 75%.
Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN) – Promoting Net Zero Carbon Emissions from Automobile Sources
The Promoting Net Zero Carbon Emissions from Automobile Sources project aims to help individuals tackle their carbon footprint — by improving access to alternative sustainable mobility options, like electric vehicles (EVs), public transport, cycling, carpooling, and walking. The project combines technology with advocacy — most notably through the development of a sustainable mobility app that tracks emissions and provides users with eco-friendly travel options. The impact of the project has been significant. Over 500 participants have engaged in advocacy activities, while a press conference with government officials, stakeholders, and university students further amplified the initiative’s reach. The project not only supports a shift toward sustainable travel behaviours but also lays the groundwork for policy changes that encourage EV adoption and enhance public transport infrastructure.
Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) – ACP Electric – the most advanced app for electrical cars
ACP Electric is an app designed to help users find the best charging station and price — wherever they are. The app allows users to compare different charging stations based on price, charging time and price per kWh. Since it was first developed in March 2023, the app has helped users to get over 100,000 kWh of fuel at more affordable prices.
Automóvil Club Boliviano – Huella Verde
The ‘Huella Verde’ Green Footprint project aims to promote sustainability, environmental awareness and resource saving. First launched in March 2023, the project has already had significant impact — with the introduction of new recycling bins, solar panels (reducing energy costs by 50%) and a car wash using recycled water.
Federaçao Portuguesa de Automobilismo e Karting (FPAK) – Environmental Sustainability in Motor Sport in Portugal
In 2021, FPAK made a commitment to promoting sustainability in sport. As part of this, the Club adopted an Environmental Sustainability Code which established rules, procedures and general principles, around two key areas 1) Noise, Fuel, Floor Protection, and Environmental Cleanliness 2) Relationship with Organisers, Participants and Teams, and Fans. It also established specific objectives around areas including carbon-free fuels and carbon offsetting.
National Automobile Club of Azerbaijan (AMAK) – Azerbaijan Climate Action
AMAK collaborated with the FIA to organised a dedicated FIA Smart Driving Challenge at COP29. The challenge helped road users to tackle their emissions during the conference fortnight – allowing them to make a difference wherever they drive.
The challenge targeted bus drivers, taxi drivers, and individual users. Ultimately, the Club succeeded in engaging 6 taxi companies, with a total fleet of over 5000 cars, and 4 public bus operators, with a total fleet of around 1000 buses.
Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) – Samf & Saudi F1 Sustainability
SAMF is collaborating with the Jeddah Corniche Circuit to implement sustainable practices, create and share sustainable resources, and drive awareness about the importance of making environmentally friendly choices (like recycling and reducing resource usage).
