This school, nestled 25 kilometers north of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, is not only unique in South Africa but is also one of just three schools worldwide to offer motorsport as an extracurricular activity.

The journey began in 2004 when Sparky Bright, Chairman of the Safety and Technical Panel at Motorsport South Africa (MSA), introduced motorsport to the school alongside Jimmy Murray. MSA has been a consistent supporter, and Chassen Bright, Sparky's son, who started at the school in Grade 8, went on to become a national karting champion and now works in Germany for Hyundai Motorsport.

But Daniel Pienaar Technical School is about more than just racing; it opens doors to careers in marshalling, timekeeping, engineering, and motor mechanics. It's also a pioneer in promoting women in motorsport, with matric student Ashley Pape making strides in timekeeping at a National Championship event.

This school's innovative approach to motorsport could serve as a model for the entire country, providing exciting opportunities for young talents and breaking down gender barriers in this thrilling sport.
