Change of pace for Beitske Visser in FIA ecoRally Cup
Single-seater and endurance competitor Beitske Visser is taking on a new challenge in the shape of this weekend’s round five of the all-electric 2023 Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup in Mahle, Slovenia.
Events in the Bridgestone FIA ecoRally Cup are all regularity rallies, in which success is measured in a crew’s ability to navigate the course as closely as possible to a pre-set target average speed.
Given that sustainability is the backbone of the series, the energy consumption of the competing cars is also measured, meaning that the combination of driving precision and energy conservation are the deciding factors.
Regularity rallies take place in open traffic and observe local traffic laws and speed limits. It is open to amateur drivers using standard production electric vehicles.
The Dutch racer, who has also served as a driver coach for the FIA Girls On Track Rising Stars programme, admitted that competing in the ecoRally discipline took some getting used to.
It’s been a really cool experience so far, normally I am used to going as fast as possible so it takes a bit of time getting used to. I picked up a few penalty points early on for that!
“Now we are really starting to understand it. I think Day 2 should be a lot of fun. The other competitors in the series have been great, there is lots of advice from them and a really nice spirit to the event.”
