FRECA – Round 2 in Barcelona

TIM TRAMNITZ SECURES HIS FIRST VICTORY IN RACE 1 AT BARCELONA

In a highly anticipated race, Tim Tramnitz emerged victorious in Race 1 of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Tramnitz, representing R-ace GP, showcased his exceptional driving skills and claimed the top spot on the podium.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli of PREMA Racing faced a troubled start that costed him the P1, then had to chase for the whole race and followed very closely, but he never had the chance to go and try for a move. The Italian displayed impressive speed and determination Antonelli secured a second-place finish, obtaining also the fastest lap of the race.

Kas Haverkort from Van Amersfoort Racing took full advantage of his experience on this track and delivered a great performance. Haverkort crossed the finish line in third place and get to celebrate his achievement on the podium.The race was filled with thrilling battles, and one of the major highlights was the intense competition at the start. As the lights went out, drivers fiercely fought for positions, resulting in side-by-side action and several close encounters. Tramnitz made a decisive move, managed to take the lead and to control the race until the end.

The race was then interrupted shortly after, when 2 MP Motorsport drivers collided into each other, causing both drivers, Sami Meguetounif and Dilano Van ‘T Hoff, to early retire from the race.
Lorenzo Fluxa, a Spanish driver representing PREMA Racing, started from the second row of the grid and executed a flawless start. Fluxa demonstrated consistency and determination, crossing the finish line in an impressive fourth position, just shy of the podium. He showcased his skill and resilience as he defended his position against intense pressure from his competitors.
Macéo Capietto, talented Frenchman competing for RPM Team, engaged in an exhilarating battle with Fluxa for the fourth-place position. Despite his best efforts to overtake Fluxa, Capietto was unable to make a successful pass and settled for a commendable fifth-place finish.

Joshua Dufek of Van Amersfoort Racing displayed notable skill and determination, securing a solid sixth-place finish. Martinius Stenshorne, representing R-ace GP, staged an impressive drive after starting further down the grid. Stenshorne positively impressed with his racing abilities and determination, climbing several positions to finish seventh overall and claim the top spot among the Rookie drivers.

Nikhil Bohra of Trident concluded the first race of the Spanish Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine’s weekend in eighth position. Following closely behind, Michael Belov of G4 Racing delivered a solid performance, crossing the finish line in ninth place.
Laurens Van Hoepen, representing ART Grand Prix, rounded off the top 10 finishers, securing the final Championship point at stake in Race 1. One of the most excting battles on the track was the intense fight for positions just outside the points zone between Rafael Camara of PREMA Racing in 11th place and Victor Bernier of MP Motorsport in 12th place. This captivating duel added further excitement to the race, highlighting the competitiveness of the series cosigned by Alpine and ACI Sport. The race ended shy of the last few laps, when the Alpine Safety Car had to guide the group after the retires of Tangavelou and Partyshev.

Tim Tramnitz: “I had a really good start and this helped me to secure the win. I think, pace wise, I was a bit under pressure from Kimi all the race. In the end I tried to save the tyres a little bit and the take care about the rears especially. Everything worked well and I was able to win race.”

2 OUT OF 2 FOR TIM TRAMNITZ IN BARCELONA FOR THE PERFECT WEEKEND

The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine delivered another exciting race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, culminating in a remarkable performance by Tim Tramnitz. The German driver, representing R-ace GP, achieved a flawless victory in Race 2, making it a perfect weekend for him in Barcelona after obtaining the best possible result in Race 1.

From the start, the race showcased intense battles and strategic maneuvers. Tramnitz, starting from pole position, faced a close challenge from Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Prema Racing, but skillfully maintained his position at the head of the group. The early stages of the race also witnessed impressive performances from Sami Meguetounif MP Motorsport, who had to fight to conquer a well deserved third position.

A safety car period was triggered by an incident involving Lucas Medina of Sainteloc Racing, who found himself in the gravel trap. Also Enzo Scionti, Monolite, and Oleksander Partyshev, KIC Motorsport, faced troubles in the early stages and and to retire frome Race 2. During the restart, the battle for positions intensified, with notable clashes between Roman Bilinski, Trident, and Laurens Van Hoepen, ART Grand Prix, as well as intense fights between various drivers throughout the race. Fierce action also by Santiago Ramos, RPM, Joshua Dufek,Van Amersfoort Racing and Maceo Capietto, RPM, who took part in a intense battle on the track.

Tramnitz displayed exceptional racecraft and gradually built a commanding lead, while Antonelli relentlessly tried to close the gap, preparing for a potential move in the closing stages. Particularly thrilling were the last laps in which the Italian were getting closer to the rival. Antonelli then faced a momentary excursion off the track, jeopardizing his chances of challenging Tramnitz for the lead. Nonetheless, Antonelli gave proof of his tenacity and staged a nice comeback in the final, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

In the end, Tramnitz’s impeccable defense proved insurmountable, as he crossed the finish line to claim the second victory of round 2. Antonelli, despite his valiant efforts, settled for a strong second-place finish, demonstrating his exceptional speed and determination. His weekend was in the end extremely positive with two P2 in Spain and great points added to his scoreboard. Sami Meguetounif closed the weekend celebrating on the third step of the podium, showcasing his skill and consistency throughout a certainly not easy race.

The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine once again delivered an excting race filled with intense battles and captivating moments.

Santiago Ramos successfully defended his fourth position from the relentless attacks of Joshua Dufek throughout the race, ultimately securing his position under the checkered flag. Dufek, with great determination, crossed the finish line in fifth, showing his great competitiveness on the Spanish track.

Rafael Camara, the Brazilian driver representing PREMA Racing, delivered an impressive performance, clinching the sixth position. Camara exhibited a strong pace and obtained his position in the intense battles that unfolded within the pack.

Maceo Capietto, after an intense and hard-fought battle, crossed the checkered flag in seventh position, proving once again his driving abilities. Roman Bilinski followed closely behind, securing the eighth position and earning valuable points.

Laurens Van Hoepen of ART Grand Prix and Michael Belov, G4 Racing, engaged in a fierce battle for the final points-paying positions. Van Hoepen, determined to maintain his position, withstood the relentless assaults of Belov, who was eager to make progress through his solid side-by-side maneuvers.

Martinius Stenshorne, R-ace GP, finishing in P12, is for the second time this weekend the best Rookie of the race.

After the round, the provisional results see Tim Tramnitz as the new leader of the series with 58 points, followed in second by Andrea Kimi Antonelli with 54 points and Kas Haverkort with 50 points.

Now the series heads to the next round in Hungary, the competition is set to further intensify, promising more thrilling action for motorsport enthusiasts around the world. The appointment  with round 3 is next month, June 17-18.

Tim Tramnitz: “The race was a bit more calm for me today than yesterday. I think our pace was just a bit better. I still was under pressure the whole race from Kimi, but I think I managed the tyres quite well. In the end, it is all about tyres’ saving and doing a good start. I think we really did a good job there.”

FR Americas – Round 2 in Road America

 

Callum Hedge Completes Perfect Weekend at Road America

Callum Hedge had a perfect weekend at the Road America SpeedTour, racing with Formula Regional Americas Powered by Honda (FR Americas) at the 4.048-mile Wisconsin circuit. The New Zealander started every race from the pole position and led every lap en route to a trio of race wins. With 75 points added to his total, Hedge left Road America with the championship point lead.

“I didn’t come here expecting to have the perfect weekend,” said Hedge after the race. “The guys that I’m racing against are very, very good. I raced Ryan [Shehan] back in New Zealand and he was pretty competitive. It’s really cool to come away with a perfect weekend—fastest in all the sessions and all the races, and I also got the championship lead. I can’t complain about that.”

When the lights went out, the field got off to a clean start with Hedge in the point position. Nick Persing (No. 39 OPI Commercial Builders Ligier JS F3) started from the second position, but found himself under attack before the field reached Turn 3. With Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) driving by, Bryson Morris (No. 39 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) pulled to the inside of Persing as they entered Turn 5 and emerged ahead of the No. 29.  Just one turn later, Persing was under fire from Manuel Roza (No. 12 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3), who drove by to take over the fourth position.

At the same time, Cooper Becklin (No. 19 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) was working to climb back through the field after falling as low as the sixth position.  On a charge, Becklin raced side-by-side, slowly ticking off the fifth and fourth positions before a full-course caution slowed the field. With a quick off while exiting Turn 12 just before the halfway point, Becklin once again fell in the running order leaving him to fight back through the field. 

While Becklin continued his climb, Oliver Westling (No. 1 JENSEN Ligier JS F3) worked his way up to the third position, passing Morris with just 15 minutes left on the clock. As the clock ticked down to eight minutes, Westling had an off in Turn 12, allowing Becklin to get by and move into the third and final podium spot.

Drivers had one more dash to try picking up track position as the field was shown the green and white flags simultaneously with just two minutes left on the clock. Hedge led the field toward the checkered flag, with Shehan and Becklin in tow. Meanwhile, Roza recorded his best finish of the season in fourth, and Max Hewitt (No. 22 Save22 Ligier JS F3) recorded his first-career top five in FR Americas competition after spending the last four years running only sim races.

“My goal from the start was the championship to try to win the SUPER FORMULA prize,” Hedge explained when asked if his focus will turn to solely the championship, or if he’ll continue to focus on each race at a time. “That’s been the goal since Day 1, so we will be pushing hard, but I’ve got a couple Porsche races in between that I’ve got to put my eyes to now.” 

At the conclusion of the race, Hedge was awarded the Omologato Perfectly Timed Move of the Race for his perfect weekend. As part of the award, he was presented with a bespoke Omologato timepiece.

FR Americas is back on track June 22-25 for the PERMCO Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, a SpeedTour event, where they will contest Rounds 7-9 of their 2023 season.

F4 USA – Round 2 in Road America

 

Race 1: Patrick Woods-Toth Takes the Top Step of the Podium at Road America

Patrick Woods-Toth took his first-career victory on Saturday afternoon during the opening race of the weekend for Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda (F4 U.S.) at Road America. When the season opened at NOLA Motorsports Park just two months ago, Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) recorded one second-place result and two third-place finishes, making today’s result his fourth-straight podium finish. 

Woods-Toth started the race second on the grid just behind his teammate Jesse Lacey (No. 16 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4). Both drivers had a clean start, and Lacey initially pulled into the point position to lead the first lap. As they raced down the front stretch, Woods-Toth pulled side-by-side with Lacey before taking over the top spot.

Meanwhile, Frankie Mossman (No. 6 Jay Howard Driver Development / CSU One Cure / Lucas Oil / LHP Ligier JS F4) lined up fifth on the grid. Initially falling back a few positions with aggressive two- and three-wide racing during opening lap, Mossman rebounded to retake the fifth position just before a full-course caution was displayed. With the field regrouped and a chance to pick up track position when the race returned to green, Mossman took it three-wide coming down the front stretch. Successfully taking over the fourth position from Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4), Mossman pulled side-by-side with Alex Berg (No. 08 MySim.ca/Rhode & Liesenfeld/Easy Drift/Penn Elcom Online/Dae Systems Ligier JS F4) to battle for the third position as they neared Turn 3. Taking over the position as they came off Turn 5, Mossman never looked back.

As they finally crossed the line to take the checkered flag, Woods-Toth led Lacey, Mossman and the rest of the field. 

“We’ve had a good start to the championship, and today was our day, it looks like,” said Woods-Toth as he stepped atop the podium. “I’m happy. I’d like to thank Orlando, MRFKC, Ron Fellows, all of my Crosslink Kiwi team, and Adam and Glen for all the hard work on the car. It was an awesome day today.”

Race 2: Michael Costello Declared the Winner in F4 U.S.’s Race 2 at Road America

Michael Costello was declared the Race 2 winner in Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda (F4 U.S.) competition at Road America. The driver of the No. 19 Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) / CSU One Cure / Lucas Oil / LHP Ligier JS F4 was awarded the win following a stewards’ decision that determined that Frankie Mossman (No. 6 JHDD / CSU One Cure / Lucas Oil / LHP Ligier JS F4)—who had crossed the finish line first—had actually jumped the initial start. Costello’s victory was the first of his F4 U.S. career.

Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) started on the pole after winning Race 1 yesterday. However, Mossman (No. 6 JHDD / CSU One Cure / Lucas Oil / LHP Ligier JS F4) kept it side-by-side and went wide to take command of the race by the time the field reached Turn 1. With Woods-Toth in hot pursuit, the No. 27 was able to retake the lead between Turns 4 and 5, holding the position through the next several turns until contact deeper in the field brought out a full-course caution.

With the field regrouped, Mossman found himself with another chance at the point position as the race returned to green a few laps later. As they crossed the line to restart the race, Mossman peeked to the left of Woods-Toth, looking for the right opportunity to retake the top position. Racing through Turn 1 side-by-side on Hankook tires, Mossman emerged as the leader. But with the top five all within five car lengths, Woods-Toth immediately started to feel pressure from behind with Michael Costello (No. 19 JHDD / CSU One Cure / Lucas Oil / LHP Ligier JS F4), Jesse Lacey (No. 16 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) and Alex Berg (No. 08 MySim.ca/Rhode & Liesenfeld/Easy Drift/Penn Elcom Online/Dae Systems Ligier JS F4) all looking for their chance to move up the running order. Costello was able to pull side-by-side with Woods-Toth and completed the pass as they drove toward Turn 3. Then, it was Lacey applying pressure to his teammate Woods-Toth. By the time they reached Turn 5, Costello had settled into second and Lacey took the third position—remaining in those same positions until the checkered flag waved.

Following the race, the stewards reviewed a report of Mossman already rolling as the lights went out. With a false start determined, they issued a 10-second penalty, which dropped Mossman from the top step of the podium to 10th in the running order. 

On the final results, Costello took the win, followed by teammate Lacey, and Berg in third. Mossman was officially scored 10th, finishing 9.701-seconds behind the leader.

Race 3: Patrick Woods-Toth Takes Race 3 at Road America for Second Win of Weekend

Patrick Woods-Toth took his second win of the weekend at Road America in Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda (F4 U.S.) competition. With five podiums in the first six races of 2023, Woods-Toth left Road America with the championship points lead.

With a solid start, Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) took the point position immediately at lights out. Meanwhile, Frankie Mossman (No. 6 Jay Howard Driver Development Ligier JS F4) and Jesse Lacey (No. 16 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) battled it out side-by-side for the second position after starting second and third, respectively. Lacey won the battle, and the three drivers—Woods-Toth, Lacey and Mossman—settled into position, in that order, as the laps ticked by. After a multi-car incident in Turn 12 while working lap four, the field went under a full-course yellow.

The field restarted the race with nearly 11:30 left on the clock. While Woods-Toth held his position solidly out front and Lacey followed in second, the battle was on for third with Mossman, Alex Berg (No. 08 MySim.ca/Rhode & Liesenfeld/Easy Drift/Penn Elcom Online/Dae Systems Ligier JS F4), Carl Bennett (No. 9 Gonella Racing Ligier JS F4) and Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) all fighting for the position. Mossman won the battle and set his sights on Lacey for second. While working lap 7, Mossman made his move in Turn 12 to overtake Lacey and secure the second position.

As another competitor further back in the field made contact with the tire barrier in Canada corner, the clean-up crew ran out of time to restart the race, leaving the drivers to settle for the positions they were in. As such, Woods-Toth led the field to the checkered flag, with Mossman finishing second and Lacey in third.

“It was awesome,” said Woods-Toth after climbing from his car. “Another good race; it sucks that we finished under caution, but we had good speed when it was green. I think a well-deserved win; I’m happy. It’s awesome to be back in Victory Lane.”

F4 U.S. returns to action for Rounds 7-9 of their 2023 season at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the PERMCO Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, a SpeedTour event, June 22-25.

F4 NACAM – Round 2 in Autódromo de Querétaro

The second round of the Formula 4 NACAM championship took place at the Autódromo de Querétaro over the weekend, showcasing exciting races and intense competition.

Race 1 saw Marco Alquicira emerge as the winner, displaying excellent driving skills and strategy. Alquicira demonstrated his mastery of the circuit, securing a well-deserved victory.

In Race 2, Cristian Cantú showcased his talent and determination, claiming the top spot on the podium. Cantú's impressive performance highlighted his ability to navigate the challenges posed by his competitors.

The third and final race of the weekend witnessed Pedro Juan Moreno's outstanding drive. Moreno delivered a remarkable performance, showcasing his skills and securing a memorable victory.

Looking ahead, the next round of the Formula 4 NACAM championship will take place at the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on June 30th and July 1st.

F4 UK – Round 3 in Snetterton

 

Alibhai becomes sixth 2023 British F4 race winner – Dion Gowda takes victory

Aqil Alibhai (Virtuosi Racing) became the sixth different winner in the 2023 ROKiT F4 British Championship certified by FIA and the first South African in the current F4 era to stand on the top step.

Alibhai started from seventh on the grid – the order set by a full reverse of the fastest qualifying times. A great start secured three places by the end of the opening lap with Noah Lisle (Rodin Carlin) gaining four places to sit in fourth. A safety car made a single lap appearance with pole-sitter Douwe Dedecker (Virtuosi Racing) leading at the restart but succumbing to Alibhai on lap three, a position the South African held to the flag after 20 minutes of racing. The restart lap was also Lisle’s moment to advance to second, claiming the Motul Fastest lap in his bid to catch Alibhai. Dedecker was in third for a second safety car intervention but on lap four Pat Heuzenroeder (Phinsys by Argenti) pressured for the final podium place and overtook for the trophy and his season-best finish.

Gustav Jonsson (Chris Dittmann Racing) finished eighth overall and took the Rookie Cup win followed by Gabriel Stilp (Hitech Pulse-Eight) in ninth with Matteo De Palo (Phinsys by Argenti) claiming a Rookie podium on his first visit to British F4.

Dion Gowda (Rodin Carlin) converted his pole position to a win in lights-to-flag style with Kanato Le (Hitech Pulse-Eight) and Louis Sharp (Rodin Carlin) converting their second and third grid slots for the same on the podium. Noah Lisle began from tenth, but contact led to a pit stop that put him to the back of the grid. From there he was on a charge which led to him and Gowda vying for the Motul Fastest Lap Award, Lisle being the ultimate time setter with a new lap record of 1:48.072.

Louis Sharp retains the lead in the standings with Dion Gowda closing the gap to six points in second. Local driver Will Macintyre (Hitech Pulse-Eight) from Norwich is now third in the championship.

Gabriel Stilp was the top Rookie this time out and has closed the gap to Rookie Cup leader Gustav Jonsson to five points.

The Pirelli Hardest Charger at Snetterton was Deagen Fairclough (JHR Developments) who finished eighth in the weekend’s only qualifying race, having started from 16th, winning a set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres for testing.

Thruxton hosts the next three rounds of the ROKiT British F4 Championship calendar on 3-4 June at Hampshire’s high speed circuit.

F4 CEZ newly certified FIA Championship – Round 2 in Red Bull Ring

 

James Egozi dominates first race at Red Bull Ring

American driver James Egozi turned his pole position start into a dominant victory in the first race of F4 CEZ Championship at the Red Bull Ring. The PHM Racing team’s joy was doubled by Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi, who finished second, with Reno Francot coming in third.

Shortly before the race start, there was a short rain shower over the track, and even though the track remained relatively dry and the drivers stayed on slick tyres, a wet race was declared and the race started behind the safety car.

The formula 4 cars circled behind the safety car for the first two laps. Once the race started for real, Michael Sauter attacked leader James Egozi and took the lead. However, Egozi did not give up and retook the lead on the long straight leading to the second turn. Meanwhile, Bhirombhakdi attacked Sauter, followed by Francot.

The top four drivers pulled away from their pursuers Jakobsen, Tylor, Šafránek, Michl, Mikeš, and Ischer, who fell to the back after contact with his teammate Jakobsen.

In the sixth lap, Bhirombhakdi attacked Sauter and after a passing maneuver lasting from the second turn to the technical section of the track, he took second place. From that moment on, the PHM Racing team held the top two positions.

In the next lap, Sauter was overtaken by Reno Francot from the Jenzer Motorsport team. However, Sauter did not give up and in the following lap, he tried to regain third place. Francot, however, defended his position, and in the meantime, Mathias Jakobsen, another representative of the Jenzer Motorsport team, caught up with them. Jakobsen overtook Sauter in the ninth lap, but their battle did not end there, and for almost the entire following lap, these two young drivers drove side by side. In the end, Sauter was the more successful.

Towards the end of the race, Bhirombhakdi came under pressure from third-placed Francot, but the Thai driver held his position.

James Egozi finished the race as the winner, with a four-second lead over Bhirombhakdi and Francot in second and third place, respectively. Michael Sautner finished in fourth place, with Mathias Jakobsen coming in fifth, however he received ten second penalty for his incident with team mate Ethan Ischer in the first lap and dropped to sixth place behind Ischer. Seventh was Niko Tylor, Jiří Šafránek finished in eighth place, with Oliver Michl in ninth and Miroslav Mikeš in tenth.

Race 2: James Egozi remains unbeaten at Red Bull Ring

James Egozi from the PHM Racing team left no doubt about his role as the favorite to win in the second race of F4 CEZ Championship at Red Bull Ring. The young driver started from pole position and stayed in the lead from start to finish.

The starting order was determined by the results of Saturday’s race, with the PHM Racing team taking the front row with Saturday’s winner James Egozi and Nandhavude Bhirombhakdi. Reno Francot and Michael Sauter started from the second row. The third row belonged to the Jenzer Motorsport teammates Ethan Ischer and Mathiasi Bjerre Jakobsen. The Renauer Motorsport teammates Niko Tylor and Jiří Šafránek occupied the fourth row, while Oliver Michl and Miroslav Mikeš started from the fifth row.

Egozi held onto the lead, while Bhirombhakdi and Sauter fought for second place. There was a slight contact between the two drivers in the fourth corner. Sauter went off track and into the gravel trap, and the exact same scenario played out just behind them between Ischer and Jakobsen. Ischer and Sauter then collided in the gravel trap, ending their races.

The safety car came out on track, and the race order was Egozi, Bhirombhakakdi, Francot, Jakobsen, Tylor, Michl, Šafránek, and Mikeš.

After three laps, the race restarted, and Egozi immediately began to pull away from his pursuers. Bhirombhakdi successfully defended his position against Francot’s attack. However, a lap later, Francot’s maneuver in the fourth corner was successful, and he moved up to second place.

The order at the front remained unchanged until the end of the race. Egozi achieved his second victory, with Francot coming in second and Bhirombhakdi in third. However, after the race, Bhirombhakdi received a thirty-second penalty and dropped to seventh place due to an incident with Sauter. As a result, Jakobsen finished third, followed by Oliver Michl in fourth after an exciting battle with Nik Taylor who finished fifth. Jiří Šafránek took sixth place, while Miroslav Mikeš finished eighth.

The next round will be hosted at Most on August 05-06.

F4 China - Round 1 in Zhuhai International Circuit

The 9th season of the F4 China championship kicked off with an exciting round at the Zhuhai International Circuit. The season opener featured a competitive field of 17 drivers, including 6 rookies, setting the stage for intense racing. Here's a recap of the action-packed weekend:
