FAU offers EMERGENCY TRAININGS FOR FEMALE UKRAINIAN DRIVERS
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many people were forced to leave their cities and move to safer regions. Cars were often driven by women who, in some cases, had to get behind the wheel despite insufficient driving skills as it was the only chance for them to save their lives and the ones of their relatives. To tackle this issue, FIA Member Club the Fédération Automobile de l’Ukraine (FAU) and the Centre for Motorsports and Emergency Training launched a project called “Intensive Emergency Training for Female Drivers of Internally Displaced Persons”.
This training aimed to teach women — who were staying in safe cities of the centre and west of Ukraine with their own vehicle — how to manoeuvre, brake or park among other things. The instructors’ goal was to significantly improve the driving skills of their students and give them the confidence to drive.
The trainings were provided by FAU-certified instructors, including experienced motor sport drivers, and multiple Ukrainian champions in various motor sport disciplines.
More than 20 female drivers from Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions took part in the first trainings held in Cherkasy, Dnipro, and Poltava.
The trainings were conducted within the framework of the humanitarian programme of the FAU, which operates with the support of Hrvatski Autoklub (HAK — Croatia), and taking into account the “Training for the drivers to ensure road safety in emergency conditions” project, supported by the FIA Road Safety Grants Programme.
The implementation of the project will continue as a result of its positive outcomes and a great interest from local communities.
