The initiative, funded by the FIA Road Safety Grants Programme under the 2022 Global Action stream, aims to raise awareness of the importance of knowing and respecting the new speed limits in urban areas that the government has recently passed, following the recommendations of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 of the World Health Organization. According to the new regulation, drivers must not exceed 30 km/h (previously 40 km/h) on city streets and alleys and 50 km/h (previously 60 km/h) on avenues.

From 23 to 29 May, the Touring y Automóvil Club del Perú carried out road safety activities on public roads with the “Fantásticos Viales de Lima”, a team of municipal road safety instructors. Free road shows were also organised for adults and children, who were reminded of the importance of speed limits through games such as the winning road safety roulette, a giant ludo and a dynamic road circuit among others. Virtual chats were held and Club employees promoted the campaign. Road safety workshops were also organised in schools so that the students could learn about the new speed regulations and key aspects of road safety through games, songs and puppet shows, among other playful activities. 

The new speed limits aim to prevent road traffic fatalities. They also encourage physical activity, as it has been proven that when streets are safe, people are more likely to choose walking or cycling to move from one place to another.
