ACA WELCOMES NEW WOMEN STEWARDS
The Automobile Club of Andorra (ACA) has recently held the second edition of the National Stewards and Officials Training Programme. Upon completion of the programme, three women – Danika Dimova, Laura Baffino and Àngela Núñez – received the National Stewards License, a stepping - stone on the pathway to become FIA International Stewards.
The Stewards and Officials Training Programme was launched by ACA in 2017 with the goal of helping participants to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to ensure that sport events are conducted safely, fairly and that the rules and regulations are upheld.
For the second edition, 46 stewards and 34 officials from Andorra were trained over 5 days to handle different kind of situations in sport events through theoretical and practical modules, with a final exam providing them with the National Stewards License.
“Stewards are a vital part of motor sport and without them the sport could not function”, said a ACA spokeperson. “The Automobile Club of Andorra is particularly proud that three women have been selected, as a result of the continued efforts that the Club and the FIA in general, through the Women in Motorsport Commission, have been providing over the last years to increase the participation of women in various fields of motor sport”.
Different motivations and reasons – a hobby shared by the family, previous experience in racing or the curiosity as a spectator – have led Danika, Laura and Àngela to participate in the programme. Thanks to the training, the three were the first women stewards to take part in the “La Pujada Arinsal” 2019 competition.
The three of them pointed that during the development of the programme and during the team meetings they felt very comfortable with this new experience.
“The programme is very well accepted and is positively valued within our community”, continued the ACA spokeperson.
“We hope to be able to maintain this endeavor and make it grow yearly with more participants”.
