GT World Tour - Gran Turismo World Tour takes over Hangar-7
Following the excitement of the New York City Grand Turismo World Tour event, the eyes of the online racing community are now on the Austrian round of the series, taking place in the famous Hangar-7, located on the outskirts of Salzburg, between September 14th and 15th.
Created by Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, a home to an impressive collection of aircraft and racing cars, for two days Hangar-7 will host the best 51 competitors from the online series representing 18 different countries. They will compete against each other in the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championships, fighting for individual glory in the Nations Cup as well as teaming up in the Manufacturer Series.
So far this season, both competitions have produced spectacular racing and multiple different winners. In the Nations Cup the season-opener in Paris was won by Chile’s Nicolas Rubilar with last-year’s overall winner, Brazilian Igor Fraga taking back to back victories at the Nürburgring and in New York City.
In the Manufacturer Series, each event has produced a different winning team. An Aston Martin trio of Yoshiharu Imai, Thomas Compton-McPherson, Christopher Marcell won in Paris. Toyota’s Tomoaki Yamanaka, Rick Kevelham, Simon Bishop were victorious in Germany, with the New York City event being won by Cody Nikola Latkovski, Bernal Valverde and Anthony Felix representing Mercedes-Benz.
The Salzburg event will also be the first one to employ a new format in the Manufacturer Series. Previously, the format was four races with only the last one being an endurance race. This will now be replaced by two races where the drivers team up – a semi-final and the Grand Final.
The Austrian event will be round four of this year’s five-event digital online tournament. To follow the best online racers in the world competing against each other live click here.
