Mick Schumacher (PREMA Theodore Racing, 1m23.640s) has claimed pole position for the 25th race of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship season and thus got himself into a good position for the title duel with Daniel Ticktum (Motopark, 1m24.116s). For the German, who came to Spielberg only three points down on the Brit, it was his fifth pole position in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. At the 4.318 kilometres long Red Bull Ring, Robert Shvartzman (PREMA Theodore Racing, 1m23.887s), Marcus Armstrong (PREMA Theodore Racing, 1m23.926s) and Jehan Daruvala (Carlin, 1m23.987s) followed behind Schumacher while his fiercest title rival Ticktum had to make do with sixth place.

The decision in the weekend’s first qualifying fell with a few minutes remaining as Mick Schumacher moved up to the top of the timing screens. He toppled Jehan Daruvala, who initially managed to claim back first place with a successful counter. Schumacher then improved once more and remained in front until qualifying was over.

Daruvala, Robert Shvartzman and Marcus Armstrong battled for second place with the Russian rookie driver coming out on top. Armstrong was classified third from Daruvala. Jüri Vips (Motopark, 1m24.112s) ended up fifth from teammate Daniel Ticktum. Jonathan Aberdein (Motopark, 1m24.135s), Enaam Ahmed (Hitech Bullfrog GP, 1m24.178s), Fabio Scherer (Motopark, 1m24.235s) and Ralf Aron (PREMA Theodor Racing, 1m24.253s) rounded out the top ten.

The car was very good to drive which made things easier for me. Of course, I am very happy with the fact that things have been going so well for me since Spa-Francorchamps and I will do everything to ensure that it will go on like this.”
