2018 WorldRX of Latvia - Q2

Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson swept Saturday’s qualifiers in round nine of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, the World RX of Latvia in Riga by storming to the quickest time in Q2.

After also setting the quickest time in Q1, Kristofferson took TQ (top qualifier) in the Intermediate Classification ahead of Q3 and Q4 tomorrow morning. “The start was not great enough to pull out in Q1, there were small touches in the first corner, obviously everyone wants to be first. Also, the first corner is quite tight so it’s not so easy to avoid the contact but the car is solid so I managed to pull out in front and the car was just fast enough and I drove just fast enough to be able to be ahead of Sebastien (Loeb),” he explained. “Then in Q2 we did some small changes on the car and I was able to pull off a great launch and from there on it was a nice race.”

EKS Audi Sport’s Mattias Ekstrom was second quickest in Q2 and is second in the Intermediate Classification, with Kristoffersson’s PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team mate Petter Solberg third after the two-time World RX champion was third in Q2. EKS’ Andreas Bakkerud was fourth in Q2 and Finland’s Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen starred with fifth in MJP Racing Team Austria’s Ford Fiesta. GRX Taneco Team’s Niclas Gronholm was sixth, All-Inkl.com Munnich Motorsport’s Timo Scheider fought back from problems in Q1 with seventh in Q2 and Team STARD’s Janis Baumanis delighted the home fans with eighth quickest time.

In the final round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar, Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss was quickest in front of Sweden’s Anton Marklund and France’s Cyril Raymond. After three qualifiers, Lithuania’s Rokas Baciuska is overnight TQ in the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600.
