Toyota will start from a 1-2 position for tomorrow’s WEC 6 Hours of Monza after Jose-Maria Lopez set the fastest time in the 10-minute qualifying session this evening that was interrupted by a red flag due to the no28 JOTA Oreca-Gibson crashing into the barriers. Porsche took the LMGTE pole as Kevin Estre swept to his fourth consecutive top spot in the no92 Porsche 911 RSR 19.

The final free practice session for the 6 Hours of Monza saw Jose-Maria Lopez set the fastest time seen so far this weekend in the No.7 Toyota GR010-Hybrid which has topped all three sessions so far. Porsche again led Ferrari in LMGTE Pro, while JOTA took over the top of the class times in LMP2 and AF Corse were fastest in LMGTE Am.

The no7 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010-Hybrid continues to set the pace at Monza with Jose Maria Lopez posting the fastest time of the weekend so far. The Argentine driver’s time of 1m36.864 was 1.6 seconds faster than his own best time set in FP1. In LMGTE Pro, after Ferrari were fastest in FP1, Porsche fought back and went ahead in FP2, with Racing Team Nederland and AF Corse fastest in LMP2 and LMGTE Am respectively.

The first session of the 6 Hours of Monza weekend saw the no7 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010-Hybrid set the fastest lap, with Jose Maria Lopez posting 1m38.401 lap, 0.134s ahead of Brendon Hartley in the no8 Toyota and 0.152s ahead of the no36 Alpine A480-Gibson. The two Glickenhaus 007 LMHs were 4th and 5th fastest with the no709 finishing four hundredths ahead of the no708.

Round 3 of the FIA World Endurance Championship will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in Italy. While The Prologue, the official preseason test, was held at Monza in 2017, the FIA WEC has never raced at Italy’s premier race circuit.

In early 2020, the FIA, the ACO and IMSA announced their intention to work hand-in-hand to create a joint top class for Endurance racing. The three parties have now come to an agreement on the technical specifications for the new category.
