The sun was out today in the hills of Northern Spain for the second and final day of the Rally de Asturias Historico. On the schedule of leg 2 for the competitors were six stages and a total of 81km. ‘Zippo’ and Nicola Arena once again ended at the top of the overall classification with their Category 3 Audi quattro.

The first day of the Rally de Asturias Historico started with scrutineering and all the 14 EHRC cars passed and were able to take the start in Pravia. In the afternoon, the weather arrived in the hills of Asturias, with low cloud and heavy rain, leaving the drivers a difficult decision as to which tyre choice was best.

The final day of the Lahti Historic Rally, saw Kari Kivenne and Asko Sairanen pull further ahead of championship leaders Ville Silvasti and Risto Pietilainen. The no4 Audi quattro finished the 12th and final stage of the rally 1m04s ahead of the no1 Audi to take maximum championship points in Category 4. Silvasti and Pietilainen also extend their championship lead with just three events remaining.

The first day of the 2022 Lahti Historic Rally, which is the host event for Round 6 of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship, saw Kari Kivenne and Asko Sairanen finish in second overall and the leading FIA EHRC eligible entry. They finished the sixth stage 54.7s ahead of championship leaders Ville Silvasti and Risto Pietilainen.

Round 6 of the 2022 FIA European Historic Rally Championship will be hosted by the Lahti Historic Rally in Finland (11-13 August), which has attracted a 49-car entry, with 15 full season cars competing for championship points. The Lahti Historic Rally is the only gravel event on the calendar and evokes the spirit of the iconic 1000 Lakes Rally.

The Audi quattro of Italian crew ‘Zippo’ and Denis Piceno returned to the winner’s podium in Austria, the Audi running faultlessly after the technical issues that had cost them the win in Switzerland and Hungary. The Audi took the fastest overall time on seven of the eight stages on the final day of the Rallye Weiz and finished 69.3 seconds ahead of Karl Wagner and Gerda Zauner’s Porsche 911 SC.

The overall lead of the Rallye Weiz, Round 5 of the 2022 FIA European Historic Rally Championship, was a close fought battle between the Category 3 Audi quattro of Italian crew ‘Zippo’ and Denis Piceno and Austrian’s Karl Wagner and Gerda Zauner in the Porsche 911 SC. At the end of the opening day of action, the Audi was just 12 seconds ahead.

With five minutes to go in the 25-minute qualifying session for the FIA Historic Formula 3 European Cup at Zandvoort, Davide Leone hit the top of the timesheets to claim pole for the first of two races to decide who is the best historic F3 driver in Europe. The young Italian’s March 783 pipped Dane Michael Ringström’s Martini MK42 by a mere 0.058 seconds, while in the dying seconds Monegasque Frédéric Lajoux jumped up to snatch third on the grid with his March 793.
